Hexagon Cup has kicked off its second edition, which will be held from 29 January to 2 February 2025, with the inauguration of its official padel court in Madrid's Plaza de Felipe II.

The court will be operational until Sunday 22 September and the inauguration ceremony was attended by Sonia Cea, the city's Delegate Councillor for Sports, Cayetana Hernández de la Riva, Councillor President of the Salamanca district and the tournament's top authorities: Astrid Thams, Commercial Managing Director, Sergio Lewin, Operations and Sports Managing Director and Carlos Almazán, Institutional Relations Manager.

During the ceremony, Cea proved to be a sports lover and did not hesitate to get on the ball with Almazán, who in addition to his management position at Hexagon Cup, is an experienced tennis and paddle tennis player, where he is a former world champion.

‘Our goal is to become the world capital of sport and that means attracting many sporting events to Madrid, which are of the highest level and which allow people in the street to enjoy them. In short, what we are doing today,’ said the Madrid City Councillor for Sport. ‘For us it is an honour to have the Hexagon Cup in Madrid and that at the end of January we can all enjoy this great event. The first edition was a success because they knew how to play perfectly with the entertainment, with the musical offer and offering many experiences for the fans, all wrapped up with the great apparatus itself that is padel,’ she adds.

Cayetana Hernández de la Riva, for her part, emphasized that ‘as Councillor for the Salamanca district of Madrid City Council, we are always supporting sport and the proof of this is that you are here in Plaza Felipe II. In Madrid, paddle tennis is unstoppable, we are being asked for a lot of courts and we are opening more and more facilities because there is a generalized demand’.

For Astrid Thams, ‘Hexagon Cup is for the players, but also for the fans and we want everyone who likes this sport to come here and enjoy it. For the next edition of the tournament in January we are going to have more surprises, more teams, more top players and we are going to invest more in the VIP part, in concerts and in bringing together padel and entertainment.

Sergio Lewin adds that ‘we wanted to make an aperitif in the Plaza Felipe II, a small sample of the fan zone that we are going to set up in the Madrid Arena in January 2025. We can see a bit of padel with the best brands and the best players, we can enjoy our sponsors and their products and everything is designed so that people can have an experience made in Hexagon. And, of course, it's the best opportunity to start buying tickets for the January tournament’.

Finally, for Carlos Almazán, Hexagon Cup is ‘a unique event because, although it is padel, it is a very innovative competition system. Although it is team-based, we bring together players who are not official partners, we involve their coaches and, in addition, the team owners are personalities from different worlds’. In our slogan (‘For the Fans. For the Players. For the Game’) we make it clear how important the fans are to us, but we also want the players to be delighted with the event and for the city of Madrid to enjoy it’, concludes Almazán.

A revolutionary padel court

The court installed in Plaza Felipe II is a replica of the one that will be on show at the official tournament from 29 January to 2 February 2025 at the Madrid Arena, which was a revolution in its first edition. Developed in collaboration with Portico Sports, it is the only one in the entire padel ecosystem with purple artificial turf, Hexagon Cup's corporate colour and a colour never seen before, which allows players a perfect definition and vision of the ball.

A week full of activities for padel lovers

Hexagon Cup has turned the central Plaza Felipe II in Madrid into a padel party with an exceptional entertainment programme that will be announced daily through the tournament's social networks. The court will be active until Sunday 22nd September from 10am to 10pm.

*During the week of Felipe II there will be succulent discounts when purchasing tickets for the second edition of the Hexagon Cup, which will be held at the Madrid Arena from the 29th of September.
